The new Outlook 2016 for Mac is the same solid, dependable, occasionally cluttered app it’s always been, for good or ill. If you’re looking for must-have reasons to upgrade to the new Office. Knowing some common keyboard shortcuts when working in Outlook 2016 for Mac can be a time saver. When Microsoft introduced Outlook 2011 for Mac, many of the commands you were accustomed to in. Note: and the Outlook for Mac application released as part of the are the same product, so this blog applies to both as long as they are updated to version or higher. The 15.8 update for Outlook for Mac was released on March 5, 2015, and it contains a new feature: Side-by-Side calendars. This feature allows you to view up to 3 calendars side-by-side instead of in overlay view. You can use this feature with your own calendars and shared calendars.
There’s nothing to click on for Inbox or Sent Items or Favorites. They’re gone! Clients make choking noises and reach for the phone to call me. That it has tracked down the bug and will fix it in a patch soon. In the meantime, it’s easy to fix as long as you remember that this is an issue and you don’t panic because you’re afraid that all your folders are missing.

Not to mention, it seems to disappear from time to time for no obvious reason. I've got one other user that, from time to time intermittently, they'll log into their machine, start up Outlook and their folder pane will just be missing (view setting is set to 'Off'). They just have to turn it back on. But, it wasn't set to 'Off' before and never (explicitly) is. Both of these users are on Office 2016. Just an update: I've now had three users total, all on Office 2016, who have had their folder pane disappear on them randomly.

They said something to the extent of, 'Well, what about my issue where every time I try to move an email to my archive folder, it tells me 'Operation Failed' or something?' I was unaware of this 'new' issue. So, I'm kind of starting to think that maybe their Outlook installation is faulty in some way or another. I was really trying to avoid uninstalling Office, removing the email profile, and re-installing it, as it usually brings headaches when it comes back and the user notices that their view settings are all out of whack and we have to go through and set everything back up to their liking. I would try to repair the installation. But, the Quick/Online repairs for Office never really seem to produce any real change for the better in most situations that I've been in where that was an option.
The laptop wasn't a domain member and the account was local so I just created a new local account and setup everything under that. Part of what I had tried was to completely remove Office and reinstall. I suspect the issue is something in the Registry that is being left behind during the uninstall. Our problem is now that manually created 'Calendar Groups' show up in Outlook 2016 as 'empty' after the Mailbox Migration to O365 (currently Exchange Hybrid mode). Meaning that the Group shows, but the added calendars within that group do not show. Funny enough the Calendar Groups DO show up in OWA including all the added calendars, so they must have been migrated successfully, just when creating a new Outlook Profile for the migrated users, only the Calendar Groups show up, but not the actual added calendars within that group, they only show in OWA.
Different formatting. When I click on View, Folder Pane, there is no option for “Favorites” anymore. Then a few days ago I opened Outlook and it was miraculously restored to the old view. I could see favorites. Folders just had a carrot arrow next to them (no icon). All was well with the world again! THEN yesterday I opened Outlook and it has changed back to the weird view.
Then in the Apply View dialog box, please (1) check the mailboxes and their subfolders in the Apply View to These Folders: box, (2) it’s optional to check the option of Apply View to subfolders, and (3) click the OK button. It would not affect the navigation pane. Now back to the problem of the navigation pane disappearing. We don't have a lot of information on it at the moment but Microsoft is investigating and have a repro.
Essentially, the folder pane is locked from adjusting the width. Anyone know of a setting that might cause this? 
But I found it just the slightest bit entertaining, and I, for one, can use all the entertainment I can get when I'm using a spreadsheet. Not everything is rosy in this new version of Excel, though.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts. Select your email account and click the Advanced tab. Check the box next to Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes.
At this time the only solution is to turn the pane back on from the View tab, Folder Pane button. You can try using the keyboard shortcut Alt+F1 to cycle through on, off, and minimized, but some of the affected users said it didn't work. I doubt it is a permanent fix but it is easy enough to do for the frequency I've seen this issue.That's an interesting workaround. I recently noticed that occasionally when Outlook is launched, the left navigation panel (folder panel) becomes hidden. The only way to make it visible is by setting View, Folder Pane to Normal. I tried both 'outlook /resetnavpane' and 'outlook /cleanviews' commands but those didn't work. If any could fix it, it would be /resetnavpane, as resetnavpane resets the navigation pane to Outlook's default. The /cleanviews switch resets the views on folders to the defaults, removing all customizations and custom views.

What’s more, if these folders are under On My Computer, they could be hidden. To show the On My Computer folders in the navigation pane, on the Outlook menu, please click Preferences. This held true even after closing Outlook and restarting the whole computer. Hopefully, that works for you as well.

What's your account type? According to my research, this issue usually occurs to IMAP account. If you are using IMAP account, please refer to the following steps to subscribe to these folders again and see if there are any improvements.
To choose a color, right-click the Calendar, select Color, and click the color you prefer. Each calendar tab will display the color assigned to that calendar.
To select my 'People' button, it used to just be there in plain view.' So I thought, 'Just expand the width of the folder pane.' However, I went to click and drag the folder pane to be wider and it won't budge.
Standardized look and feel In Office 2016, Microsoft is bringing a common look and feel to the suite across all platforms, which is why this Mac version looks much like the recently released Windows-based. However, there are still some differences between the Mac version and the Windows Office preview. As with the Windows 2016 preview, on the Mac the applications are color-coded: Blue for Word, green for Excel and red for PowerPoint. Also missing in the Mac version is one of the more useful features of the Windows version: A box on the far right of the ribbon with the text, 'Tell me what you want to do.' Type in a task, and you get walked through doing it via options and menus. I found that exceptionally useful, and hope that Microsoft eventually introduces it in the final, shipping version of Office 2016 for the Mac. Another difference: The Ribbon doesn't have the File tab.
I must have already spent a couple of hours on this. Any ideas folkshelllpppp! A lot depends on the type of mail service that’s set up in Outlook. For online mail services – like Outlook.com, Gmail, and Microsoft’s business Office 365 mail – then you can compare what’s in the Outlook program with what’s in webmail. If necessary, you can start over again in Outlook and set up the mail from scratch and it will re-download everything from online.

• Delegate access lets someone act 'on behalf of' you. When you grant delegate access, messages or calendar event invitations will come from an address in this format: Arnie Assistant on behalf of Mary Manager. You can grant Delegate access with any level of sharing (or with no sharing at all).
But, the last I checked, the 'folder pane disappearing' issue happens intermittently, to which I just deploy a Quick Access button for the View>Folder Pane>Normal action (workaround). That seems to give users an easy way to fix the issue on their own by simply reviewing a checkbox on their Outlook. But, on the 'folder pane width locking' issue, have you tried switching the offending Office installation from the deferred update channel to the current update channel? This channel will give you some more 'cutting edge' kind of updates, so be aware that you may/may not get some quirky behavior that you didn't have before (although, I haven't experienced much since switching). It's just a suggestion because I'm really not sure if anyone in my organization has experienced this issue anymore, as nobody has reported it since it was originally discovered. But, there may be a patch that fixes it for you on the current channel. Check it out and let me know, if you so wish.
You can view up to 3 calendars in Side-by-Side view at a time. When you select more than 3 calendars the view switches to Overlay view automatically. If you have more than 3 calendars selected, you will not be able to click the Overlay button to disable it. You must deselect calendars until you have 3 or fewer selected to view the calendars in Side-by-Side view again. Collapsing Calendars An option to change the view when in Side-by-Side view is to click the arrows on the calendar tabs in order to collapse the calendars so they are overlaid over the other calendar(s). You can click the left arrows on the calendar tabs to collapse them, and then the arrow on the calendar tab changes to a right arrow so you can move it to the side again. You can collapse the calendars in this manner in any combination of calendars that you prefer.
The new Presenter view may be PowerPoint's best new feature. On the plus side, I found the new Presenter view an excellent addition.

And as everyone in modern business environments can attest, the more quickly information is received, the faster it can be acted upon. The new 2016 version also includes improvements to threaded email conversations, in which messages possessing the same subject are grouped together. Outlook 2016 for Mac automatically organizes the inbox around threaded conversations, thereby simplifying the process of locating related messages. Often times, numerous messages are exchanged within the same thread. Other recipients will edit or truncate previous responses, making it difficult to confirm previous statements or reference information included in earlier emails. By grouping the messages together, this information (and others' responses) can more easily and readily be accessed. The new Outlook for Mac client also changes the way preview messages appear.
Using two different interfaces to open files is jarring at first and takes getting used to. However, after a few times I got used to dealing with it.
You can change the 'default' account and it will go to the top. Go to Tools, Account and then select the account you want to be the default. Click the gear at the bottom and select 'Set as default.' Then, the remaining accounts will be put in alphabetical order. You may need to exit Outlook and reopen it to see the new order. This works better than deleting the top account - letting the items shuffle and then adding the other accounts below since the sort order doesn't always follow the order of addition to the app.
The resulting message contains up to six monthly calendars, a list of daily appointments, and full details (if selected). As seen in the screenshots below, the dates are hyperlinked to the daily appointment lists and the appointments are hyperlinked to the details. This was happening even before I updated Office overall, thought maybe the update would have a patch for this, as it seems to be a bug. At first, the issue that was reported to me was that the folder pane was missing completely.
Anyone know of a setting that might cause this? It works on everyone else's machine here, as far as I know. It most certainly works on mine and I have identical view settings compared to this user's Outlook. Any help is appreciated, thank you! Not really, no. I was searching everywhere this morning to see if I could find anyone with the issue I'm having.
